Plan Your Safari
Logistics, pickup details, and what to pack for your day in the bush.
Pickup Areas
We provide free door-to-door pickup and drop-off from any hotel or guesthouse in the following areas:
- Sigiriya (Including Pidurangala area)
- Dambulla
- Habarana
If you are staying outside these areas (e.g., Kandy, Anuradhapura), we can arrange a private taxi transfer for an additional fee. Just let us know when you book.
Morning vs. Afternoon Safaris
The best time of day depends on what you want to see:
- Afternoon (2:00 PM - 6:00 PM): This is the best time to see large herds of elephants. As the day cools down, elephants emerge from the forest shade to drink and bathe in the lakes.
- Morning (5:30 AM - 9:30 AM): This is the best time for birdwatching and spotting elusive predators like leopards and sloth bears, though you will see fewer elephants than in the afternoon.
What to Bring
- Neutral-colored clothing: Wear breathable fabrics in greens, browns, or khakis. Avoid bright colors (especially red or white) which can startle wildlife.
- Sun protection: A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential. The jeeps have roofs, but the sides are open.
- Camera gear: A zoom lens (200mm+) is recommended for wildlife photography, along with a wide-angle lens for landscapes.
- Water: We provide bottled water, but bringing an extra reusable bottle is always a good idea.
Combining with Sigiriya Rock
Yes, you can easily combine a safari with climbing Sigiriya Rock in a single day! We recommend climbing the rock early in the morning (start at 6:30 AM to beat the heat and crowds). You will finish around 9:30 AM, giving you plenty of time to relax, have lunch, and be ready for your afternoon safari pickup at 1:30 PM.
